SINGAPORE
We made a 'stopover' in Singapore several
times now. Singapore is a modern city with big skyscrapers. But somewhere between
you will find small chinese temples. And in some district people still live in
small houses like time stood still here.

Singapore is a clean town and wants to stay that way. There are high
fine fines for poluting. And it is forbidden to chew gum! There are more
rules to obey. For example there is a big fine if you donīt flush a public
toilet! Pornografy is forbidden, and sometimes they even fine you for having a
normal (male) magazine, like the dutch Panorama. Posession of drugs could cost
your life, as there is a death penalty for it.
But if you stick to the rules Singapore is a great city. Public
transport(i.e. metro) can bring you almost everywhere.
Do visit the Sri Mariamman temple, the biggest budhist
temple in Singapore. This temple is at the border of Chinatown, also worth visiting.

In the harbour there are many little boats coming and going. the big
seaships are waiting outside to take in load or drop it off. One can make an
harbour cruise with a chinese jonk. It cools you of in a very hot Singapore.
At night it is nice to visit a market and eat on the street in Bugis
Street. The entire street is filled with tables and it is very crowded. Not
tired yet? You can go to the zoo, there is a special nightprogram.

When you have plenty of time in Singapore you can do a daytrip to
Sentosa. Sentosa is an island full of touristic attractions. It is the island
where the Singapore people go to for a day out.
