MAINE
The coast of Maine is very beautiful. Acadia NP is along the coast and worth visiting.
In Bar Harbor one can do some whalewatching. In peakseason there are companies that will
give a moneyback garantuee on sightings. We were pretty sure to get our money back, but after 3 hours there was a whale.

At Freeport one can visit the desert. The owner is proud to tell this is the
largest desert in east USA. But we think it is nothing more than a large sandhill.
It is nice to do a tour with a tractor and wagon, but don't spend to much time here.

VERMONT
We were in Vermont for a very short time, but we did see the most beautiful view of
the state. A tollroad leads to the top of Mt Equinox, Vermonts highest point.
NEW YORK

The most famous spot of New York state is probably Niagara Falls. The pictures are well
known from books or the television. It is very strange to be on top of the falls and look
down... instead of a front view. It shows us the known pictures are made from the canadian
side. It is very easy to get to Canada, just cross the bridge and show papers to
customcontrol. But do visit the USA side first, there is much to discover here.
Take a trip on the "Maiden of the Mist" the boat will take you to the foot of the falls, or walk
behind the waterfall (cave of the winds tour). At night it is very nice to be on the bridge and see the colored lights on the falls..

At the shores of the Hudson you will find the militairy academy of the USA : Westpoint.
We visited Westpoint. The area is filled with historic markers and monuments, at the
cemetary there are many famous generals who all studied here.

Today the security measures are much higher and you can only take organised tours after showing id.
In Saratoga Springs one can see the petrified bottom of the sea. It takes some imagination,
but the shapes are beautifull.
BOSTON, Massachusetts

Boston is a quiet city. Take the citywalk along some interesting points: The Freedom Trail.
It takes you to an old cemetary, the statehouse, and to the USS Constitution, and old navy ship dating back to 1794.

PENNSYLVANIA
In the neighbourhood of Lancaster, Pennsylvania live a lot of Amish. The Amish originate from Germany. They were pursued for their faith and moved
to the USA. Here they stayed faithfull to their traditions, norms and values. They still speak german, don't use cars, telephones and dress simple.
Modern clothes mean 'Hochmut' (pride). The children go to their own schools where the older girls teach in german.
Most of them are farmers and they grow often tabaco. Born as an Amish you stay in the
group. When you sinn you will be banned. Your family is not allowed to help you or even speak to you.
To learn more about the Amish there is an infocentrum in Lancaster.

In Gettysburg a large battle was fought in juli 1863. It was a battle in the civil
war north against south. The battlefield is now filled with monuments every regiment and
every state has its own monument here.
In the visitorcentre you can learn all about the
civil war and the battle at Gettysburg. Not the deciding one, but the battle with the most casualties.
