Egmond Wandelmarathon 2008

At 26 and 27 january we participated in the Egmond wandelmarathon. It was the 5th time Le Champion organised it. Ofcourse we did the two days of 21 km, to complete the full marathon in two days.
Peter and Willeke joined us this time. Because Willeke likes to walk with poles we followed the Nordic walking route. This route was less crowded and it was a pleasure to have some room while walking.

On saturady we went north to the Kerf, where we entered the dunes. The wind was blowing from the south parcours Egmond wandelmarathon 2007 and we were practically blown to the Kerf. After a while the sun come out and it felt good to walk here. The dunes of Schoorl are the highest in our country and it was a tough part of the route. In Bergen we saw a restaurant and went in for some coffee. We were not the only ones who needed a break. On to Egmond, it is only 8 km to go... A few stairs up and down, where is that last control post, it feels like hell. Finally we found it and a snack and a glass of fruitjus made us ready for the last km.

Time to have serious drink in our hotel.

Sunday we headed south. The wind changed direction and we did not have to struggle against it. Coming from the west the wind brought us cold sea air and it was a lot colder than saturday. At Castricum we went in land and back through the dunes, which are much easier than saturday. It feels like we can do much more today. A herd of cows block our path though at the controlpost at 16 km. We manage to pass and finish in Egmond in a good time though.
