Egmond Wandelmarathon 2007
At 27 and 28 january we walked the Egmond wandelmarathon. It is was the fourth time that Le Champion oragnised this walk.
There were two routes: 10 or 21 km, we chose to walk the 21 km,
that way we would have completed a marathon
in 2 days. The weather forcast was not very good. Lots of wind and rain. But when we look back, it wasn't that bad at all.
On saturday we had a few showers, with a little bit of hail. And on sunday it was mainly the hard west wind that troubled us. Especially as it
was high water.
On saturday we walked to the south along the route of the Egmond Half
Marathon, a week earlier. First along the beach to Castricum. Back through the dunes.
Along the beach the wind was pushing in our backs and we went fast. At the controlpost at the beach we got candybar, in Castricum aan Zee a
bottle of water and an orange. At the campingground there was another bottle of water. And after 16 km the army had some warm peasoup for the
participants. Two kilometers later we arrived inEgmond, but from there it was another 3 km to the finish...
Sunday we went to the north. Again we started along the beach. After eight km we went into the dunes. These dunes are so much harder
to walk as the dunes in the south. They are much heigher and it seems it is all loose sand.
In Bergen there was a band playing at the controlpost. It cheared us up. But we had another 8 km to go, up and down along narrow pathways.
Just before we arrived at the finish it started to rain.
